‘Cake Envy’. Those are the words used by High Street Delicatessen owners JoJo and Barrie about their fine produce. And they are highly agreeable words to use, according to the locals of the historic market town, Newtown, mid-Wales. Whether you want to meet a friend for a morning coffee and cake, or you need a pick me up to take away for your afternoon work meeting, you’ll be sure to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth at the delicatessen. Let’s not forget their delicious, warming homemade soups: Carrot, Cashew and Coriander, Hearty Italian Bean and Chunky Moroccan Harira, which will warm you from your head down to your feet on those cold autumn and winter days. As well as their scrumptious foods, JoJo and Barrie also like to stock their delicatessen with a fine range of wines and spirits, which you can try at their tasting evenings, pop-up suppers and seasonal events.
High Street delicatessen’s aim is to provide Newtown with a wealth of rural food and drink. We all crave home-made cakes, scones and soups but rarely do we have the time to make them. This is where High Street Delicatessen comes into its own, with fresh food made daily. From Sticky Gingerbread and Lemon Drizzle cake, to traditional Bara Brith, you’re not going to want to miss out on their daily adventures. But don’t just take our word for it; the judges at the Guild of Fine Food tasted the delicatessen’s Bara Brith for the Great Taste Awards and awarded it a gold star in 2016!
